Coordinator, Client Services & Development
Alberta and NWT Division
Full-time, permanent position
The Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada is an international leader in innovative service provision for people with MS and their families and in the advancement of global research on the cause and cure of multiple sclerosis.
The Coordinator will provide support to persons living with MS using the appropriate core services and programs. They will educate local healthcare provider networks in the Grande Prairie, Peace River and area regions about MS and collaborate in initiatives specific to client needs. The coordinator will also ensure service delivery is aligned with provincial client services standards, guidelines, reporting and best practices as operationalized by the Division CS team.
The successful incumbent will also be responsible for supporting the Grande Prairie Enerflex MS Walk and other fundraising activities. The proportion of time devoted to Client Services and Fundraising shall vary throughout the year according to the timing of the fundraising season.
This position is a position of trust in Client Services. The incumbent will be required to complete the screening process including completion of appropriate background checks in compliance with the National Screening Measures Policy (2006).
Responsibilities:
· Assist in identifying and meeting the needs of people with multiple sclerosis, their families and the community through educational resources, supportive counseling, referral services and advocacy
· In consultation with the Alberta Division Client Services Department and local volunteer/stakeholder consultation, develop and implement an annual Client Services Business Plan that reflects alignment with the Division Strategic Plan
· Ensure an accessible, friendly and open place for people with MS to share their story, connect with peers, and learn to navigate the challenges that MS presents
· Liaise with community organizations to represent the needs of people with MS and their families
· Ensure that Government and Community Relations information is made available to clients and front-line service provider volunteers
· Respond to general inquiries and refer clients to appropriate community resources as necessary
· Assist with the organization of regional awareness sponsored by the MS Society
· Set up an office repository of current, relevant and appropriate information in varied formats for community client access
· Support the part-time Walk Coordinator and committee in the South Peace Regions
· Work consultatively with and provide input for the Walk team in Alberta
· Work with the Walk Coordinator and fundraising team and board members to recruit and retain sponsors
· Build relationships with and provide customer service to top fundraisers, team captains and top donors
· Help organize and attend pre-events like the top fundraising night or volunteer appreciation evenings
· Support the coordination of the event program and site-logistics, including route, checkpoints, safety, sound, etc. for the Enerflex MS Walk in the South Peace Region
· Work with Alberta Division to market and promote the Walk to recruit and increase pledge averages
· Work with Alberta Division on print materials including brochures, posters, magnets and t-shirts for the Walk
· Seek out new fund development activities in the South Peace area that will provide a new revenue stream
Qualifications:
* University degree or college diploma in Social Sciences, Health related field with at least 2-3 years' experience in a not-for-profit environment with a current knowledge of provincial programs and services with demonstrated advocacy skills
* Demonstrated experience in customer relationship management is required
* A valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle is required
* Training in first aid and emergency procedures is an asset
* Knowledge and understanding of multiple sclerosis
* Exceptional leadership skills
* Strong team building skills
* Superior interpersonal, counseling, teaching and communication skills
* Ability to work with a wide variety of volunteers
* Awareness of available community resources
* Ability to represent the MS Society in an appropriate manner
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including oral, written and presentation
* Well-spoken with excellent telephone manners
* Ability to prioritize and multi-task items at differing stages of completion
* Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times
* Experience on Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Outlook Email
* Self-motivated, including an ability to develop goals and objectives as well as work with minimum supervision
* Strong customer service skills
* Ability to take initiative and practice good decision-making
* Ability to be flexible and respond to a diverse workload
* Ability to support and encourage volunteers
* Determination, patience and perseverance in conducting fundraising projects
* Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to work independently and within a team
* Ability to facilitate groups and understand group dynamics with the knowledge to differentiate between support counseling and therapeutic counseling
Location: Grande Prairie (office), with occasional travel in North Peace (Peace River, Grimshaw etc.) and South Peace areas
Occasional evening and weekend work will be required

Manager, Development, MS Walk
Fundraising, Alberta Division
One Year Maternity Leave position

The Alberta Fundraising Events Department is a non-profit events sector leader, generating millions in fundraising revenue mostly through
well-known participant-based fundraising programs such as the MS Bike Tour, the MS Read-
A-Thon and the MS Walk.
The Manager, Development, MS Walk is responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating,
implementing and evaluating the Edmonton and St. Albert Walks. The successful candidate
will provide leadership and supervision in the implementation and evaluation of the smaller
site Walks, and act as a resource to staffed Alberta Chapters conducting Walks.
Responsibilities
• Recruits and oversees the two Walk committees.
• Supervises Walk Coordinator, MS Walk and Development Coordinator, Development.
• Works as part of the fundraising team in Edmonton.
• Works consultatively with walk sites in Alberta.
• Provides leadership for smaller walk sites.
• Leads monthly teleconferences with Alberta Walk staff
• Organizes and leads training of Alberta Walk staff
• Works with sponsorship manager to recruit and retain sponsors.
• Builds relationships with and provides customer service to top fundraisers, team
captains and top donors. Retains, recruits and recognizes these individuals.
• Develops marketing plan to recruit walkers and increase pledge averages.
• Helps organize and attends pre events: top fundraising night, pub nights, team events.
• Oversees the coordination of site logistics, including route, checkpoints, safety, sound,
etc.
• Works with communication department to promote the Walk (press releases, press
conferences, kick off events)
• Develops Alberta Walk templates for Footnotes, magnets, etc.
• Implements National consensus items in Edmonton and consults walk sites on proposed
changes.
• Oversees print materials including brochures, posters, magnets and T-shirts for
province.
• Works collaboratively with other divisions on Walk initiatives.
• Looks for best practices (NMSS, divisions, chapters, outside agencies)
Qualifications
• A university degree in a related field with at least 3 years of progressive experience
managing fundraising programs in a not-for-profit environment or the equivalent
education and experience
• Experience working with volunteers and volunteer committees is an asset
• Experience managing staff and/or working with senior staff and /or volunteer boards is
an asset
• Self-motivated and mature with an ability to develop goals and objectives and
implement strategies with minimal supervision
• Strong leadership skills and the ability to foster a team environment
• Exceptional stewardship and customer service skills, and an ability to work
collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and display discretion at all times
• Excellent organizational and time management skills with ability to prioritize effectively
• Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Able to work in a fast paced, high pressure, professional environment
• Problem solving and conflict resolution skills and ability to practice good decisionmaking, especially under pressure
• Excellent computer skills, including proficiency with MS Office 2010, SharePoint and
Internet Explorer coupled with strong database experience
• Demonstrated capacity to work with diverse groups and interests and to facilitate a consultative process

packing, carrying and loading
Location: Edmonton with occasional travel in Alberta. Occasional evening and weekend work will be required.
