Thank you Walkers!

Two Girls Walking photoThank you to everyone who participated in the 2010 Manitoba Lotteries MS Walk.  We had 9 amazing walks across the province, and thanks to the support and dedication of all our participants, volunteers and sponsors, we have come one step closer to ending ms.

Fundraising dollars are still coming in and we’d like to thank all of you for the hard work you put in by holding team fundraising events and collecting pledges from your families, friends, and co-workers.

To our team captains, thank you for being amazing motivators to all your team members.
At the end of the day, we are all part of Team MS, and together, we are working towards the same end goal of finding a cure for multiple sclerosis.

See you again in 2011 for another great Manitoba Lotteries MS Walk.

Active Leisure Lifestyle

On Monday, May 17th, 2010 the Manitoba Division hosted an event in Winnipeg focused on promoting an active leisure lifestyle. A lovely, sunny afternoon contributed to an enjoyable BBQ, which was followed by presentations by various community organizations committed to promoting inclusive leisure opportunities. Members heard about and tried out adapted golf carts, trail riders, bicycles and gardening tools. Presentations were made on disabled sailing and adapted water-skiing. Dale Bullied of Carmen’s Cruisers (a Manitoba Division bike tour team) motivated participants to try new and interesting endeavors with his story about building an adapted bike so that his friend with MS could be an active participant in the RONA MS 150 Bike Tour. Special thanks to The Active Living Alliance for Canadians with a Disability, Disabled Sail Manitoba, Freedom Concepts, Water Ski and Wakeboard Manitoba and Shelmerdine Garden Centre Ltd. The messages came out loud and clear – many leisure activities are accessible or can certainly be made accessible. All it takes is creativity, perseverance and the genuine desire to participate in an active lifestyle.

World MS Day

The Manitoba Division held a lunch time barbecue on May 26 in honour of
World MS Day. We invited staff from the other offices in our building and enjoyed hotdogs and ice cream with around 15 guests. It was an opportunity to share information about MS and the MS Society with our neighbours who had lots of questions about our various Client Service activities and fundraising events. The barbecue concluded with the release of red and white EndMS balloons into a blue Manitoba sky!
