FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Where is the start? Kiwanis Picnic Shelter, Red Deer.  Parking available at Bower Ponds – volunteers will be available to direct you.

What time is Start? 7:30 a.m. is registration,  and breakfast.  9:00 am walk begins.

What routes are available? Pond Loop (2 km), Nature Loop (8.5 km) and Ranch Loop (7 km) OR any combination of these.

How long will it take? Some common times: 5 km - 1 hr; 10 km - 1.5 to 2 hrs; 15km – 2.5 to 4 hrs.  It depends on how slow or fast you like to walk.

Can I start before 9 am? We do not recommend it. Safety personnel will not be in place yet and the checkpoints will not be open. Besides, you will want to be part of the ceremonial start with the Red Deer Royals Marching Band.

Is there a minimum pledge amount needed?  As this is a major fundraiser for the MS Society, we DO ask that each person raise at least $125 and that it be submitted on or before Walk day.  This qualifies you to receive an official 2012 Enerflex MS Walk T-Shirt.** Fundraisers are entitled to an event pinnie, breakfast, checkpoint refreshment, and lunch.

Should I register my children? Yes, please register everyone for safety reasons.  Also, each registered person receives a Walk pinnie which then entitles them to be served food at the event.

How do I check in at the Walk? If you've already submitted your pledge money, you just need to pick up your pinnie….there will be a shorter line-up for that. If you DO have money to submit, or you haven't claimed your t-shirt yet, you will have to line up a little longer.  So come early.  Then have breakfast and start Walking!

Can I bring my pledge money to the Walk? We will be accepting money at the Walk, but we recommend bringing it in early to the MS Office (before May 25th) to avoid line ups.  You can continue to raise pledges right to June 8th to qualify for prizes.

Can I pick up my T-shirt at the Walk? Yes, however, event T-Shirts are in limited supply this year.  To make sure you get one, drop your pledges off early to the MS Society’s Office, before May 25th, to  105 – 4807 – 50th Avenue, Red Deer.

How should I dress? Dress in layers, wear comfortable shoes, and be prepared for anything. Sunscreen is recommended. We walk rain or shine!

Should I take my car? Please consider car-pooling as parking is limited.

Can I bring my rollerblades or my bike? It's best if you don't. With the number of people at the Walk, it gets too congested.

Can I bring my dog?  We would prefer that you leave your pets at home.  We expect close to 700 Walkers this year.  This is a family event with a large number of young children present, not to mention food, kid’s activities, entertainment, and a significant number of wheelchairs & scooters.  Thank you in advance for your respectful support in this matter.
