Says Alanna, "I don’t know where we would be as a family today or how we could do it if it weren’t for my grandmother Patty. When my mother was no longer able to use the scooter to attend to my brother and me it distressed her immensely. Who was there to help not only physically but also emotionally it was Patty. She now became the only driver for the two homes. She did all the grocery shopping including driving the kids to cadets, sporting events, school, and anywhere else they, Chris or her parents needed to be. No one missed out on anything not even a doctor’s appointment.
"Patty’s whole life has been about helping the community and those in need. Patty has passed the message onto her family ‘don’t just stand there get your hands dirty and help out!"

Mount Washington Alpine Resort, Division Award of Merit (Non-member)
Ski for MS was the brain child of Mike Manara, Snow School Director at Mount Washington Alpine Resort. Mike approached the NVI chapter in 2006 with a desire to have a fundraiser for the MS Society of Canada at Mount Washington. His long-time friend had recently been diagnosed with MS and Mike made a promise at his friend’s wedding to initiate a fundraiser with proceeds going to the MS Society of Canada. More...
Mike worked very closely with the North Vancouver Island Chapter and together we came up with the structure for the event. Mike took this idea to Mount Washington Alpine Resort who whole-heartedly supported the fundraiser and provided financial, staff and on-site support for the event.
Ski for MS has raised a total of $60,798 in pledges, sponsorship dollars, barbeque proceeds and day of event donations. Mount Washington’s support has allowed a more of the pledges raised by participants to go directly to supporting people living with MS in the community. Funds raised have allowed the Chapter to provide the same level of programs locally in spite of fluctuations in annual funding. The success of the event has allowed the chapter to increase support of MS research each year.
