BC and Yukon will use the power of the flower to end MS
in May 2011

Carnation

The carnation is Canada's oldest and most recognized symbol of hope in the quest to end multiple sclerosis.

Many Canadians living with multiple sclerosis are mothers. Others, either children or adults, have mothers affected by this disease because women are diagnosed with MS three times as often as men. That's why every year volunteers across BC and Yukon conduct the MS Carnation Campaign close to Mother's Day weekend.

In May, volunteers in communities across Canada will be showing their dedication to finding a cure by selling carnations on street corners, malls and other public spaces. In BC and Yukon, our volunteers expect to sell over 20,000 blooms to raise funds to support MS research and free supports and services provided in communities across the country.

"Giving back to our local community is an important part of being a Scotiabanker. With the MS Society's Carnation Campaign, we can double up our community involvement. We purchase carnations from the campaign, then we give them away on Mother's Day to our female customers. We are able to support the MS Society and recognize those unsung heroes (mothers) in our everyday lives at the same time".
