Social and recreation programs assist people with MS to enhance their quality of life by participating in social and community activities. The goals of these programs are to have fun, encourage people with MS to try new things, regain self-confidence and to socialize in a friendly and caring atmosphere.
Fitness programs aim to improve endurance, muscle tone, flexibility and mobility; and reduce pain, spasticity and fatigue. Research indicates that exercise helps maintain independence and improve overall quality of life within persons with MS.
Examples of program activities include:
Social - picnics, barbeques, tours, holiday parties, lunch socials
Recreational - painting, cooking, games and card playing, dancing, movies and much more.
Fitness - water based exercise, yoga, walking, tai chi, adapted or modified exercise classes, Pilates.
