Volunteer

Are you looking for a new way to be involved with the MS Society where you can have fun as well as do something you can feel good about? Please check out the opportunities listed below. Please contact Marie Wong, Director, Volunteer Resources at 403-250-7090 or marie.wong@mscalgary.org if you are interested in any of these volunteer positions.

Volunteer Application Form - Generic
Volunteer Application Form - Event Specific

Event Volunteers

The Enerflex MS WALK and the MS Bike Tour are held in June each year. We need hundreds of volunteers for each event. Call early for the best chance to get yourself set in the positions you prefer.

Peer Link Program

Are you are a good listener and enjoy talking with others? The Peer Link Program provides an alternative to coping with MS alone by having persons in similar circumstances listening, exploring ideas and identifying alternatives with people affected by this disease. By using supportive listening skills, the Peer Link volunteer provides an opportunity for people with MS to feel less isolated and to increase coping skills.

Requirements:

  • Ability to develop peer support relationships by treating clients with respect
  • Willing to share insights and experiences about living with MS
  • Previous volunteer or work experience in direct client services
  • Willing to make a six month commitment of three hours twice per month
  • Excellent communication and listening skills
  • Desire to assist others with MS

Bowling Volunteers

Got a spare bit of time? Want to help “strike” up a good time for MS Society clients? The MS Society runs a regular bowling league for individuals with MS every Wednesday at the Let’s Bowl bowling alley located at 2916-5 Ave NE. The hours are from 10:45am until 2:00pm. This is a weekly league, which provides lots of fun and excitement to all the bowlers. This program would not be possible without the help of some dedicated volunteers.

Yoga Volunteers

Do you enjoy relaxing and interacting with people? Then volunteering with the yoga programs is for you! We need yoga volunteers Tuesdays from 10 –noon at Highwood Community Centre, 16 Harlow Ave NW. Duties include assisting clients with gentle seated yoga movements, bringing equipment out to be used in the program, and putting equipment away afterwards. No experience needed as training is provided, but a basic knowledge of yoga would be beneficial.

Interested in a volunteer opportunity not mentioned above? Please contact:
