What's New

The 21st Annual Ottawa MS Walk

More than 1,400 people, including 135 teams, many in costume, took part in the MS Walk in Ottawa on Sunday, April 29th, raising close to $280,000 in support of multiple sclerosis research, programs and services.  The MS Walk is the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada's largest and most visible national fundraising activity with Walks taking place in over 160 communities across Canada throughout April and May.

CTV's Vanessa Lee made sure that the 21 st annual MS Walk got off to a fine start with the help of 9 year old Declan Perkins and his brother Benny, who released 500 red balloons into the sky from the balcony of Statistics Canada's Jean Talon Building at 170 Tunney's Pasture Driveway. Participants were congratulated by Mayor Jim Watson who proclaimed April 29 th Lace Up For MS Day , announcing that this year's Walk set a record in Ottawa for the most number of people wearing the same shoelaces at an event. Corporal Craig Kennedy sang the national anthem and the RCMP Pipes and Drums Band led the crowd out on their choice of a 2.5, 5 or 7 km trek along the scenic Ottawa River Parkway.

We would like to thank all the participants for coming out on a sunny, but chilly day, raising funds and awareness. We would also like to thank the more than 200 volunteers that make this event happen, including the Walk Organizing Committee who has spent the last six months planning the event. Thank you as well to our generous sponsors who  have provided us with in-kind product, services and support.
