2012 MS Bike Tour – Ottawa to Cornwall
Thank you for Gearing Up for the Challenge!
On August 11, 568 cyclists embarked on the inaugural Ottawa to Cornwall MS Bike Tour. With both one and two day tour options, and routes ranging from 75 km to 245 km over the weekend, the tour took cyclists on an exciting scenic route through country villages and alongside the St. Lawrence River. This was the 23 rd year for the tour, but the first time that the fundraising cyclists spent the evening and night at the comfortable Nav Centre in Cornwall, after having traveled to Kemptville for the first 22 years of the tour. Initial feedback indicates that the change was much appreciated!
To date, we are delighted to report that over $450,000 has been raised! We want to celebrate and thank the hundreds of cyclists for their hard work in acquiring pledges and for gearing up for the challenge to ride this new route! Cyclists have until September 10 th to collect all pledges for prizing purposes, but can continue to turn in funds until the end of 2012.
We also wish to thank the 200 volunteers who made this weekend the success it was. Volunteers were responsible for everything from the efficient cyclist check-in on Saturday, stocking the rest-stops with healthy snacks and words of encouragement, and driving the first aid and support vehicles for the weekend. The volunteer team went the extra mile to ensure that cyclists got what they needed over the weekend and were well taken care of at every turn of the wheel.
We would also like to thank the thousands of donors who generously pledged and continue to pledge the cyclists, helping us to move closer to our goal of $470,000. All funds raised go toward MS research into the cause and cure for MS, as well as programs and services to assist Canadians today living with MS.
A special thank you also goes out to the MS Bike Tour Committee. This group of volunteers, including a representative from the Cornwall and District Chapter, worked diligently throughout the year to plan and provide insights and advice on the new tour, route and destination. We could not have done it without their expertise and hard work.
Thank you to the numerous sponsors that support this event. Without the support of these community partners, we would simply not be able to provide the cyclists with both the core services and the many little extras that add value to the tour. Please show your appreciation to these sponsors with both patronage, and a verbal thank-you next time you are at their place of business.
The 24th annual Ottawa Chapter MS Bike Tour will take place on August 10 and 11 th , 2013. Mark your calendar today and start the recruitment of new riders for your 2013 MS Bike Tour team when you thank your 2012 sponsors for their support. The Cornwall Nav Centre can accommodate many more cyclists, and we hope to welcome you back along with an expanded community of participants in 2013!
