Information and Referral

  • Publications covering all aspects of living with MS.
    Download our MS Connections newsletter and a complete list of publications available from the Manitoba Divsion office.

  • The most up-to-date information on current research Research update

  • Information on resources available in your community

  • Educational sessions and conferences covering a variety of topics related to living with multiple sclerosis designed both for people with MS and for their families. Upcoming events

  • Library - each chapter of the MS Society has a lending library of books, periodicals and other publications, audio and video tapes dealing with aspects of living with MS and other related topics

  • Knowledge is Power - This is a six-week mail-out education and support program for individuals recently diagnosed with MS. Topics include:
    1. Taking the First Steps: What is MS? Dealing with Your Diagnosis & Disclosure
    2. Disease-modifying Treatments for MS
    3. Maximizing Your Employment Options
    4. Treating Yourself Well
    5. Maintaining Healthy Relationships: Family, Friends and Colleagues
    6. Working with Your Doctor

  • Ask MS - The ASK MS database contains a wide variety of print material on multiple sclerosis; from research and scientific papers to books and articles written by people with MS, there is material available for anyone from a neurologist to a layperson. To access this material, contact Jan Hosking via e-mail or toll-free at 1-800-268-7582 and ask for information on the topics in which you are interested. It will be mailed to you free of charge.

  • A Roadmap for Living Well with Chronic Disease in Manitoba - This handbook contains listings of a wide range of services available thrughout Manitoba.

Support and Consultation
Supportive counselling and consultation sessions for persons with MS and for family members.

Programs on Progressive Forms of MS
The Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada, Manitoba Division offers two unique educational programs on progressive forms of MS. People with progressive forms of MS and their caregivers will be able to gain up-to-date and relevant information on progressive MS, treatments, care, and research.

Self-Help and Support Groups
Offering individuals the opportunity to share their experience of living with MS with other people who also have MS and truly understand. For more information, contact Ellen Karr, Client Services Coordinator, at 988-0917.

Group locations and meeting times

One-on-One Peer Support
Now offered province-wide!
Peer support volunteers have received training and receive ongoing support from the MS Society, enabling them to provide valuable support to other individuals living with MS. The MS Society can provide you with a peer support volunteer who can meet with you in person or over the phone. You may choose to make contact just once or several times over a three-month period. Peer support matches are reviewed after three months and can be extended if individuals wish. Contact Ellen Karr at

Recreational & Social Activities

Please refer to your local chapter site or newsletter for detailed information on the programs offered in your area or e-mail deanna.austin@mssociety.ca Some programs available may include the following:

  • Yoga, gentle yoga and afternoon yoga
  • Tai Chi
  • Adapted aquatics
  • Massage
  • Trips to local attractions

Members receive a 20% discount on all programs and special events.

New! Friendly! Fun! Social Club

Are you tired of looking at your own four walls? Would you like to add some companionship and enjoyment to your life? If you would like to join a sociable group of people for a cup of coffee, a couple of hands of cards, a game of Scrabble or a friendly chat, this is for you.

The Social Club is now meeting in the Program Room at the MS Society on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month from 10:00 am until noon.

You can drop in on Thursday, March 25 or call Ellen Karr at 988-0917 for future dates.

Laughter Club

Do you want to be energized, successfully manage life’s ups and downs, reduce stress and increase laughter in your life?

A number of members enjoyed the opportunity to participate in a Laughter for Healthy Living session at the MS Society in October. Several others attended an entertaining presentation at the MS Active Living Day at the Reh-Fit Centre. The MS Society is pleased to offer you a 6 week Laughter Club program this Spring.

Mondays, May 3 –June 14 (no session on May 24), 10:30 am - 12:00 noon
Program Room 1465 Buffalo Place
Cost: $30
