Frequently asked questions
Who should students ask to sponsor them? The MS Read-A-Thon strongly discourages students from doing door-to-door solicitation. We do recommend that students only ask family members and friends to sponsor them. This still leaves many options of people to be sponsors - parents, siblings, grandparents, friends, teammates and neighbours!
Will sponsors receive tax receipts? Any sponsor who provides their full name and address on a student pledge form and who donates $20 or more will automatically receive a tax receipt from the MS Society. Tax receipts are issued following the counting and depositing process. Sponsors can expect to receive receipts within five months of the completion of the MS Read-A-Thon program in their province.
When will we receive our Scholastic book voucher? This year's Scholastic book voucher will be sent at the completion of your program along with your students' individual thank-you awards.
When will we receive our students' awards? Following the money collection week, the school's funds are processed and their students' award information is tallied. Summary sheets and prize packing lists are then prepared. Orders are filled as quickly as possible but can take several weeks to reach the school after funds have been collected.
To whom will awards be shipped? The awards will all be shipped to your school. The contact at the school will receive a detailed prize packing list with students' names, their fundraising amount and the award they chose.
Why is it important to adhere to the scheduled BRINKS' pick-up date? If the Brinks pick-up date is missed, school money becomes separated during the counting process. Late money is not counted with the original student pledge envelopes from your schools and those numbers must be reconciled separately (up to eight weeks later.) This means that your school's final tally may not be accurate when we send out school vouchers and certificates.
