Volunteering

All of our volunteers seem to share a number of attributes including a genuine interest in people, a desire to help and an understanding of MS. Our volunteers achieve a sense of emotional fulfillment that comes from helping others, and they also develop skills and gain valuable work experience.
The Toronto Chapter has two types of volunteer work available
There are more Toronto-based opportunities available through the MS Society, Ontario Division's volunteer program.

Self-help Group Leader
The MS Society, Toronto Chapter, has a variety of support groups that are run by chapter volunteers. These volunteers
- Are diagnosed with MS or are a family member/friend of a person with MS.
- Decide on the focus of their group (i.e. could be general , for women or men, students, caregivers, etc.) and the geographic area of their group.
- Are committed to holding weekly, monthly or bimonthly meetings.
- Are looking for a long-term volunteer experience.
- Take part in a training program and attend annual meetings with chapter staff.

Chapter Volunteer
The MS Society, Toronto Chapter is a volunteering experience suitable to those who
- Are available from Monday to Friday during our regular office hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Are knowledgeable about multiple sclerosis and are comfortable speaking to the public about MS.
- Are looking for the occasional volunteer shift (could be one or two per year).
- Are looking for a long-term volunteer experience.
A Toronto Chapter Volunteer may be called upon to do any of the following activities:
- Help us out with office work. May include filing, helping us with mail-outs, doing phone work and many other tasks.
- Help us out at a special event, which occur a few times throughout the year.
- Help us out at an information display. The Toronto Chapter does information displays throughout the year. The volunteer's role is to speak to the public about MS.
