Coordinator, Communications and Marketing

Description:

Canada has one of the highest rates of multiple sclerosis in the world, making MS Canada’s disease. The MS Society of Canada is the country’s leading MS advocate, funding leading research in MS and programs & services that help people live well with the disease.

Reporting to the Director, Marketing Communications and Government Relations, the Coordinator, Communications & Marketing will support the development and delivery of internal and external communications programs to increase awareness of multiple sclerosis and the work of the MS Society. The Coordinator will use social media platforms, the creation of print materials and various online and written marketing materials to support the MS Society’s signature events and communications needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Writes and edits content for various internal and external documents
  • Provides communications and media relations support for events and activities
  • Responsible for maintaining social media content and local website updates
  • Creates content for, designs, and distributes bi-monthly e-newsletter
  • Designs pamphlets, brochures, posters, ads and collateral material for various activities/events
  • Provides logistical support for events, including audio visual and photography
  • Manages the collection, culling and dissemination of photos
  • Creates accurate, clear specifications for print and other designed products for stakeholders
  • Manages database/distribution lists for mailing/emailing divisional information
  • Manages distribution of MS Society of Canada branded materials and collaterals
  • Performs other communications & marketing functions to support the organization’s work

Qualifications:

  • University or college education in communications or public relations with at least 1-2 years relevant experience (can include work terms)
  • Above average software proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint is required
  • Proficiency and experience with Adobe Creative Suite including InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator is required
  • High level of proficiency in social media platforms is required
  • Experience in a not-for-profit environment would be an asset
  • Bilingualism (French/English) would be an asset
  • Exceptional problem solving and organizational skills
  • Outstanding communications skills – written and verbal
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with an ability to multi-task
  • Prompt, self-reliant and detail oriented
  • Ability to take initiative and practice good decision making and problem solving
  • Ability to be flexible and respond to a diverse workload
  • Sensitive to issues of disability and diversity
  • Actively engaged in social media and familiar with current social media platforms
  • Ability to work collaboratively and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders by telephone and face-to-face
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Pleasant persona coupled with sound judgment
  • Flexible, discreet and able to maintain confidential information, knowledge of correct protocol for specific situations

Special Considerations:

  • Evening and weekend work may be required for special events (2-3/year)
  • Occasional travel within Atlantic Canada may be required.
