Our team is looking for a strategic, innovative, and proactive Manager, Principal Giving to further enhance the MS Society’s fundraising capacity located in Toronto on a full-time basis working 35 hours per week.

Canada has one of the highest rates of MS in the world, with an estimated 90,000 Canadians living with the disease.

We are privileged to be a part of a determined group of change agents who are working tirelessly to create a world free of MS. Some 1500 Canadians affected by MS serve as leadership volunteers on division and chapter councils and committees and an estimated 13,500 volunteers work tirelessly delivering programs, fundraising events, public awareness campaigns and social action activities.

Through discoveries, innovation, and collective action, we will work together to alleviate the uncertainty that MS causes, help provide accessible options for disease management, and reach out to partners to eliminate physical and social barriers in our communities.

The role you will play

  • Reporting to the Director, Philanthropy, the incumbent will serve as a key member of the Philanthropy team responsible for significantly increasing the Society’s revenue from Principal ($100,000+) and planned gifts on an annual basis
  • Actively build, manage, and maintain a high-value portfolio of up to 120 individuals and foundation donors and prospects with capacity to give primarily at the six-, and seven-figure levels
  • Maintain accuracy of all active donor files including all related donor record administration, briefing notes, and contact reports
  • Work closely with colleagues across the Multiple Sclerosis Society team as well as volunteers to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors to achieve annual fundraising targets according to agreed upon metrics, milestone, and deliverables
  • Help build the principal, major and planned giving pipeline, identify innovative fundraising opportunities, and create engagement strategies that increase donor giving, upgrades, and retention
  • Be a strong and proactive communicator for the MS Society of Canada’s mission by preparing written correspondence; designing and writing proposals and solicitations; preparing strategy, briefing, and talking point documents; and creating presentations describing our organizational priorities: research and, programs & services
  • Collaborate with teams and colleagues as it relates to mission priorities, prospect research, data analysis, cultivation, and stewardship
  • Willingness and ability and travel (dependent on pandemic status).
  • Experience in and commitment to using computer-based donor relationship management systems (e.g., SalesForce) in support of fundraising efforts

What you will bring

Are you someone who has:

  • Three to five years of demonstrated success in personally building philanthropic relationships with high-net worth individuals; working closely and productively with volunteer and senior staff leadership; and identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and closing leadership gifts
  • Proven ability to work well with a wide range of constituents, including volunteers, donors, executives, and researchers
  • A proven track record of developing successful individual fundraising strategies that expand the base, grow revenue, and strengthen existing donor relationships
  • Personal characteristics associated with successful fundraising professionals, including a vigorous work ethic, sound judgment, impeccable integrity, demonstrated initiative, professionalism, intellectual curiosity, and the temperament to work effectively and productively with colleagues, donors, volunteers, etc.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively and concisely (both in writing and orally) with multiple audiences; listens as well as gives advice; and respects others
  • Demonstrates the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • A broad knowledge of industry best practices, standard operating procedures, and new approaches to philanthropic giving
  • A strong affinity for the cause and/or health research
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
