Specialist, Development - Corporate Partnerships and Events

Reporting to the Manager, Leadership Giving and Corporate Relations, the Specialist, Development – Corporate Partnerships & Events is an integral member of the BC & Yukon Division development team that strives to carry out the mission statement of the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada. Specifically, the Specialist, Development - Corporate Partnerships & Events will be primarily responsible for developing, executing, evaluating and growing the revenue and engagement of Corporate Partnerships. This will include leading on key events such as MS Golf and WAMS, Corporate Team Recruitment for MS Bike, Signature Event Sponsorship, Corporate IChallenge fundraisers, alongside supporting other fundraising initiatives in the BC & Yukon Division as required.

This position is a position of trust. The incumbent will be required to complete the screening process including completion of appropriate background checks in compliance with the National Screening Measures Policy.

Responsibilities:

•Serves as expert and stewardship lead for corporate partnerships, corporate team recruitment for MS Bike, and events, including sponsorship and team engagement across BCY Division

• Responsible for the development, coordination and maximization of revenue and participant engagement initiatives for MS Golf, WAMS and key partnerships (A&W)

• Responsible for the development and implementation of the Corporate Team recruitment and retention plans for MS Bike across the province

• Support and advise provincial team in identifying, pitching and securing corporate sponsorship for MS Walk and MS Bike events across BCY Division.

• In conjunction with the fundraising and communications teams, develop and implement the Corporate Partnerships, Corporate Team recruitment, and Events timeline, marketing, and media plans.

• Plays a lead role in supporting IChallenge and 3rd party events when linked to corporations.

Specific Responsibilities

Committee Work:

• Works with the Coordinator, Volunteer Engagement to recruit MS Golf and WAMS Organizing Committee members

• Supports the MS Golf and WAMS Organizing Committees in ensuring committee members understand their roles and responsibilities and are working to meet event deadlines.

• Assumes any portfolio roles which are not filled by committee members.

Sponsorship:

• Works to support all event staff across the province to retain past sponsorship and develop new sponsorships for key events, by developing sponsorship tools and reviewing sponsorship agreements

• Monitoring all sponsorship agreements and ensures benefits of sponsorship outlined in the agreements are delivered across the province.

• Works to help sponsors activate their engagement in the events.

Media/Public Relations:

• Works in close conjunction with the Communications Team:

o in the production of marketing, promotional, participant retention and pledge enhancement materials

o on direct promotion campaigns - print, PSA’s (local and site specific)

o on the strategy and production of web marketing materials

• Works with the Organizing Committees to coordinate external promotions

Participant/Supporter Engagement:

• Manages and develops strong relationships between the MS Society and event fundraisers, attendees, sponsors, volunteers and community groups.

• Particular focus and responsibility of Corporate Team recruitment and retention for MS Bike

• Maximizes new team and guest/participant recruitment through a variety of recruitment initiatives for Corporate Events

• Maximizes participant and supporter retention with relationship building activities throughout the year

• Stewards high-value participants and attendees on a regular basis to increase revenue and long-term value, encourage engagement and connection to the Society.

• Communicates with participants and supporters on a regular basis to encourage engagement and connection to the Society

• Identifies and cultivates strong relationships with potential corporate partners across the division, providing training and consultation to the team as needed; involves and prepares senior staff and management team as appropriate

Event Logistics:

Organizes event logistics with Organizing Committee members including, but not limited to:

• Site/Venue plans

• Venue management and set up

• Safety and emergency protocols

• Volunteer requirements

• Entertainment

• Food

• Equipment and signage

• Event agendas

Post Event Logistics:

Including but not limited to:

• Develops post event stewardship and acknowledgement plans for sponsors, team captains, participants, suppliers and event supporters

• Distributes thank-you letters to volunteers in conjunction with the Coordinator, Volunteer Engagement

• Event equipment/supplies inventory

• Organizes Organizing Committee wrap up meetings for event evaluation

• Creates final event reports

Administration/Deadlines:

• Manages the MS Golf, WAMS and corporate sponsorship budgets in conjunction with the BCY Management Team.

• Works with the Administration Department to ensure database and event accounting procedures are followed

• Attends bi-weekly department meetings 

• Adheres to all assigned deadlines

Supervisory Responsibility:

• Responsible for supervising one employee and oversees the work of volunteers

Qualifications:

• College diploma with at least 3-5 years’ experience in event management, fundraising and sponsorship within a not-for-profit environment, or the equivalent education and experience.

• A valid driver’s license is required.

• Able to work in a fast paced, high pressure, professional environment

• Strong relationship building skills with diverse groups – individuals, corporate, volunteer groups

• Ability to be flexible and respond to a diverse work load

• Good organizational ability.

• Able to attend to detail and able to prioritize effectively

• Ability to solve problems and practice good decision-making

• Strong communication skills, both written and oral; strong customer service/relationship building skills

• Comfortable interacting with individuals with disabilities

• Demonstrates initiative, is goal oriented, and a self-starter

• Strong computer skills, including proficiency with all Microsoft Office programs and experience working in a database system

Special Considerations:

• Evening and weekend work will be required as necessary to ensure the success of the events

• Physical demands of special events include packing, lifting carrying and loading

• Constraints of weather elements at sites during special events

• Travel primarily throughout the Metro Vancouver area, and/or various parts of the province, to other provinces, and to conferences or professional development   opportunities as appropriate.
