Imagine Canada Standards Program Accreditation

The Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada is committed to building a culture of excellence. In pursuit of our mission we strive to demonstrate ethical behavior and integrity and to adhere to the highest standards of quality, transparency, and accountability. To uphold and strengthen these values, the MS Society and the Quebec Division of the MS Society sought and received accreditation through the Imagine Canada Standards Program. The six other divisions of the MS Society of Canada: British Columbia & Yukon, Alberta & Northwest Territories, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Ontario & Nunavut, and Atlantic and their respective chapters are not separately incorporated and therefore share in the accreditation granted to the MS Society of Canada of which they form part of.

The Imagine Canada Standards Program accredits charities and non-profits that demonstrate excellence in five areas of operations: board governance, financial accountability and transparency, fundraising, staff management, and volunteer involvement. Our policies and procedures in these areas were evaluated through a transparent peer review process by a group of volunteers from the sector. Accreditation through this program confirms that we meet and comply with the 73 standards which form the basis of the Standards Program.

The MS Society of Canada and the Quebec Division of the MS Society are separately incorporated charities which share a common mission, values and strategic plan. Imagine Canada requires that separately incorporated charities seek accreditation independently of each other even if they are very closely linked. Because most chapters of the Quebec Division of the MS Society of Canada are separately incorporated from the Quebec Division itself, the accreditation of the Quebec Division does not extend to its separately incorporated chapters. Imagine Canada Standards Program accreditation does not extend to the Multiple Sclerosis Scientific Research Foundation which is also a separately incorporated entity, but with a close link to the MS Society.
