What is self-care in caregiving anyway? Is it just one more thing on a long list of obligations? Caregiving guides or magazine articles often seem to blame caregivers for feeling tired or overwhelmed because apparently, self-care wasn’t practiced correctly or often enough.

There are two people in a care relationship and each of them needs care – one of those two people is the caregiver. But how can we manage to fit self-care into a day filled with the necessities of daily caring for someone with dependency needs? Many caregivers will pour a cup of tea for his or her loved one and think, “I’ll have mine later.” Maybe incorporating self-care could be like pouring two cups of tea.

In this webinar, Donna Thomson will invite participants to think about how self-care can be woven into daily life while continuing to give care. Respite opportunities at home and in the community, both with and without your loved one will be explored as well as non-traditional ways of thinking about what brings us the rest, comfort, and energy that we need for our role.
