MS Sevens Rugby Tournament Raised $5,500 for MS - BC and Yukon DIvision
(SURREY, BC) The MS Sevens Rugby Tournament was held at the South Surrey Athletic Park on the Bayside Rugby Club field on May 31. The event raised $5,500 for the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada BC and Yukon Division.
“We chose to fundraise for MS because both Taylor Stogryn’s grandma and my grandma had MS, but also because it is so prevalent in the community,” says Paige Smith, one of the organizers of the tournament. “The chances are as I grow older a friend or another family member will likely suffer from MS. It would be incredible if the diagnosis was no longer a life sentence.”
The co-ed rugby tournament was organized by Paige Smith, Riley Smith and Taylor Stogryn who play for the Bayside Sharks Rugby Club and the UBC Thunderbirds. The tournament was attended by 250 many of whom came out from as far as Seattle, Washington. Participants and spectators enjoyed a concession and a beer garden along with an MS information booth. Bayside Rugby Club, Westform Metals, Westwood Metals, Canex Building Supplies LTS and Sequoia Pacific sponsored the tournament.
