A unique networking opportunity celebrating five honourees on November 20 for their exceptional contributions to the MS community

Toronto, ON – October 27, 2020 – The Women Against Multiple Sclerosis (WAMS) Gala presented by the LOVE YOU by Shoppers Drug Mart™ program brings together a powerful collective of more than 500 professionals nationwide on Friday, November 20 in support of Canadians living with multiple sclerosis (MS). The much-anticipated event supports leading-edge MS research by fundraising and honouring women who are making a difference in Canada’s business and MS communities.

On average, 11 Canadians are diagnosed with MS every day and women are three times more likely to be diagnosed than men. Since its inception in 2005, WAMS has raised over $4.3 million for the MS Society of Canada to help fund ground-breaking MS research in Canada. This year’s WAMS Gala celebrates five honourees from across the country for their contributions to the MS community in one nationwide event bringing the best parts of the event into your home. The Gala features keynote speaker Anna Maria Tremonti – host of CBC’s The Current and two-time Gemini Award winner. VIP ticket holders are invited to an exclusive Q&A session with Tremonti and special guests following the gala.

“Finding ways to inspire each other during periods of uncertainty may be challenging but through events like the WAMS Gala, we are able to recognize the resiliency of exceptional leaders in business and the MS community,” says Pamela Valentine, president and CEO, MS Society of Canada. “We are in the midst of a remarkable era in MS research. With your continued support, we can build on this momentum, leading to more life-changing impacts for the person living with MS.”

As an added feature this year, all ticket purchasers will also be given access to the WAMS Speaker Series. The weekly, five-part online webcast begins Friday, October 16 and focuses on professional development featuring inspiring stories from women leaders. Ticket prices for the gala start at $115.

About multiple sclerosis and the MS Society of Canada

Canada has one of the highest rates of multiple sclerosis in the world. On average, 11 Canadians are diagnosed every day. MS is a chronic autoimmune disease of the central nervous system (brain, spinal cord). It is considered an episodic disease meaning that the severity and duration of illness and disability can vary and are often followed by periods of wellness. Most people are diagnosed with MS between the ages of 20 and 49 and the unpredictable effects of the disease will last for the rest of their lives. The MS Society provides information, support and advocacy to people affected by MS, and funds research to find the cause and cure for the disease, bringing us closer to a world free of MS. Please visit or call 1-800-268-7582 for more information, to get involved, or to support Canadians affected by MS by making a donation.
