Psychologists are extensively trained in assessment and treatment. They use their specialized knowledge of human behaviour, emotion, personality and mental processes to make diagnoses.

There are different types of psychologists that specialize in specific areas or therapies. The following specialists may be of assistance when dealing with the cognitive effects of MS:

Rehabilitation Psychologist - Sees individuals with behavioural and emotional problems associated with physical disabilities.

Neuropsychologist - Sees individuals who have dysfunctions associated with the brain and central nervous system.

Referral Service - The Ontario Psychological Association operates a free, confidential referral service that will help you find a psychologist in your area and will give you information about their expertise and services, as well as languages in which service is offered.
