Support/Self-help Groups

Support and self-help groups are an informal way to link people affected by MS. These programs all have the same goal: to give and receive emotional support and share practical ideas in dealing with the daily challenges that MS presents.

Groups are based on the idea that no one knows more about a problem than those living with it. Each person is an expert, having learned from his/her own experiences. In a support or self-help group, individuals share not only their challenges but also their successes.

Sharing and talking with others who have had either the same or similar experiences, helps people discover they are not alone and that there are others who understand what they are going through. Support and self-help programs offer problem solving strategies as well as realistic support, encouragement and hope.
