Recreation, Social and Fitness - Ontario & Nunavut Division

    Recreation, Social and Fitness Programs

    Recreation, social and fitness programs are established to meet an identified need in a community and assist people with MS to enhance their quality of life by participating in social and community activities. The goals of these programs are:

    • To have fun
    • To accentuate the positive
    • To encourage people with MS to try new things
    • To rediscover old pleasures
    • To regain self confidence
    • To socialize in an atmosphere of camaraderie
    • To increase wellness and improve quality of life

    Recreation, social and fitness programs may include:

    • Swimming
    • Tai chi
    • Yoga
    • Day away programs
    • Barbecues
    • Holiday parties
    • Lunch socials
    • Trivia nights
    • Summer programs

    In addition, some MS Society chapters have developed partnerships with local community groups or organizations that provide programs for persons with physical disabilities, such as YMCA, March of Dimes, Victorian Order of Nurses (VON), centres for independent living, etc.
