The below mentioned organizations offer adapted programming and/or specialized programs for persons living with MS. Please contact the providers listed for program details.

If you are a person living with MS, we would like to hear from you about your community recreation and wellness experiences, whether through one of the organizations mentioned below or a self-identified program. Your thoughts and experiences are important in helping us to strengthen community opportunities and identify new, potential programs. Adapted Physical Activity & Para-Sport Development Experts - Programs provide individual and group fitness to adults living with disability. The facility offers specialized equipment and trained staff to adapt programs to suit all abilities and levels of fitness.

Active and Ageless, Healing Yoga, Zumba & Recreation Subsidies (LEDUC) - Everybody Gets to Play™ is a national initiative to enhance the quality of life for families by increasing access and participation in recreation, athletic and cultural opportunities. Through Everybody Gets to Play™, the city is able to offering the following programs.The Recreation Assistance Program (RAP) is a subsidy for facility membership and/or programs at the Leduc Recreation Centre. City of Leduc and rural Leduc County residents who can demonstrate financial need are welcome to apply. Verification of income, residency and an in-person intake appointment is required.

Boccia - Boccia is a Paralympic sport adapted from the traditional Italian game of bocce so that people with a wide range of disabilities can play. Athletes throw, kick or use a ramp to propel a ball onto the court with the aim of getting their ball closest to the target jack ball.

Chair Yoga - Experience one the most gentle but still challenging forms of yoga available! Perfect for people who are looking for a safe, thorough workout that offers breath awareness and relaxation. We will incorporate chair and wall support in addition to modifications to suit individual needs.

Cultivating Calm - previously Yoga for Multiple Sclerosis - Cultivating Calm classes address neurological conditions through the appropriate adaptation and application of yoga practices. Class sessions are designed to enhance balance and coordination, as well as increase body awareness to maintain and improve muscle strength.

Equality Fitness & Recreation - helps to decrease the barriers to being active by providing individualized fitness, recreation, yoga and wellness services directly into your own home. Our Certified Exercise Physiologists and Adapted Physical Activity professionals specialize in working with individuals experiencing MS and a wide variety of disabilities and chronic conditions. Transition support including aquatic and exercise therapy in community recreation centres along with rural support and consulting is also available.

Exercise for Health (SPRUCE GROVE) - This specialized exercise program is designed for individuals with chronic health conditions, to help manage symptoms and improve overall physical health through exercise. Featuring instruction and guidance from the TLC’s Certified Exercise Physiologist, this program guides you in a safe, small group environment. Participants are required to complete a PAR-Q form prior to starting the program and may require further documents from their physician to be cleared to participate.

Gentle Yoga - Gentle yoga is perfect for people who want to try yoga for the first time (or for the first time in a long time), and need a gentle start to their practice. This peaceful class uses basic hatha poses to stretch you out and help you relax, with the occasional, optional challenge thrown in so that you feel like you’ve earned that relaxation at the end of class! No experience necessary. Yoga Within also offers Iyengar yoga.

Hatha Yoga - Multi-level yoga class that is suitable for beginners.

Iyengar Method - Yoga classes for individuals who are interested in practicing the alignment and teachings of the Iyengar method.

Kinesis for MS, Boxing for Parkinsons, and Foundations of Parkinsons (ST. ALBERT)
- Focus on breathing, postural awareness, muscular endurance and balance while increasing mobility and feelings of energy and wellbeing. This KINESIS class is designed for those with MS and other neurological & muscular disorders, incorporating movements and activities to be part of a targeted therapy to increase quality of movement in everyday life. Movements may be modified to suit all needs and abilities. Please note: the Thursday class is 15 minutes longer to allow for additional stretching and fascia release.

MS Strength and Stretch, Moving 4 Life, Gentle Yoga, and more (FORT SASKATCHEWAN) - These gentle classes are excellent for beginners and individuals with health, balance or mobility issues. Restore and gain flexibility, strengthen and tone as you awaken your mind and body.

Next Step and Fighting Back (SHERWOOD PARK) - This exercise program is designed for people with neurological and/or chronic health issues. Participants, who must provide a doctor’s consent prior to registration, will first meet with a certified exercise physiologist for a personal program of exercises tailored to each individual’s abilities. Next Step workouts are done in a group setting under the supervision of a trainer.

Restorative Yoga - This class is suitable for individuals who are experiencing or who have experienced cancer, as well as people with heart issues, rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, stress, depression, or other conditions. Students must be able to get up and down to the floor independently.

Seniors' Yoga (STONY PLAIN) - Yoga classes with Deb of Acu Harmony and Health, specifically for seniors (ages 50 and over), adapted to your skill level. Ideal no matter what your level of fitness or experience with yoga.

Warm Water - A class specifically designed for those with arthritis and other mobility issues. The shallow, warm water helps to relieve stiffness, increase range of motion and allow for a safe low-impact cardio and strength workout.

Waterworks - Water works is an aquatic exercise program specifically for individuals with muscle, joint, or mobility issues. A trained instructor teaches soothing, slow movements in the pool - all accompanied by soft music. Relieve stiffness, increase flexibility, and restore or maintain muscle strength. It is safe and easy, and perfect for arthritis or fibromyalgia sufferers.
