Persons with Persistent Multiple Barriers (PPMB)

The Persons with Persistent Multiple Barriers category recognizes individuals who are unable to achieve financial independence because of specific barriers to employment. All family units with at least 1 adult classified as PPMB are eligible for earnings exemptions of a combined $500 per month and are eligible for health supplements including medical supplies and equipment, extended therapies, $1,000 in dental services every two years and medical transportation.

To classify as PPMB, an individual must meet the following criteria:

  • Have received assistance for 12 of the last 15 months
  • Have severe multiple barriers to employment
  • Have taken all reasonable steps to overcome these barriers and
  • Have a medical condition that has lasted for at least 1 year and is likely to continue or reoccur frequently for at least 2 years and which seriously impedes or precludes their ability to search for, accept, or continue employment
