Municipal Accessibility Advisory Committee

Created by the Ontario Disability Act, the role of the committee is:
  • To advise Council on the preparation, implementation and effectiveness of its annual accessibility plan
  • To review site plans of and advise on accessibility issues relating to identified buildings within the Municipality
  • To advise Council on other accessibility related issues within the Municipality
Municipalities with a population of 10,000 or more must set up an accessibility advisory committee. Any municipality with a population of less than 10,000 may also set up an accessibility advisory committee. More than half of the members of the Committee must be people with disabilities.
A municipal council should designate a key staff person or department to ensure the establishment of a Municipal Accessibility Advisory Committee and the development of an annual accessibility plan.
